White Water SUP Coach Training Course Information
The White Water SUP Coach Training Award is an inclusive course, designed for you, to support you in your coaching of paddlers who want to gain/improve their own paddleboarding skills.
On this course, you will be taught how to observe, analyse and coach SUP in the White Water environment, of Grade 2 (3). This will include how to coach beginners, or more experienced paddlers looking to develop their skills.
As a Coach you can work independently or you could be deployed by a club, centre or organisation. Being a White Water SUP Coach allows you to design you own coaching to support their learners and provide Paddle UK Awards and Training (which could help your employment, club or freelance work) such as:
- Personal Performance Awards – for example the Start Award, Discover Award, Explore Award, SUP Sheltered Water Award & SUP White Water Award.
There will be opportunities to develop and progress your own paddling skills and meet like-minded SUP boarders during the course. Many of our course candidates develop long lasting friendships, connections and contacts which is in fitting with the Paddle UK educational philosophy re fostering a paddlesports community.
Pre Course:
Ensure you have the prerequisites in place – check he what do I need to bring. You can discuss with us in advance anything to do with the course and we will fully support you in the lead up to it.
We follow the course documents which can be found at the following link.
Day 1:
We meet at Tamdhu and follow the guidance notes as the above link for what to cover on day 1 – we will likely spend the day entirely at Tamdhu and focus our learning around the bottom section as well as carrying the boards to the top of the rapids on occasion as well to run the whole thing. If candidates are progressing very well then we might head and do a section in the afternoon from Ballindalloch to Tamdhu.
Day 2:
We will discuss on day 1 the potential for venues on day two this might be a section of the Spey or Findhorn and you will have the opportunity to practice your own coaching having ben set some homework from the day before to prepare you own coaching sessions which you will be able to deliver and gain feedback on from the course provider.
Post Course:
We always offer people to email in any questions they might have post course or in the journey between training and assessment and know that we are happy to support people even after the course in how they develop as coaches should anyone ever have any questions or want to run ideas past us.
