White Water SUP Coach Assessment Course Information
The White Water SUP Coach Assessment Award is designed to assess you in your coaching of paddlers who want to gain/improve their own paddleboarding skills in G2(3)
On this course, you will be assessed how to observe, analyse and coach SUP in the White Water environment, of Grade 2 (3). This will include 90 minutes of coaching your mock clients looking to develop their skills.
As a Coach you can work independently or you could be deployed by a club, centre or organisation. Being a White Water SUP Coach allows you to design you own coaching to support their learners and provide Paddle UK Awards and Training (which could help your employment, club or freelance work) such as:
- Personal Performance Awards – for example the Start Award, Discover Award, Explore Award, SUP Sheltered Water Award & SUP White Water Award.
There will be opportunities to develop and progress your own paddling skills and meet like-minded SUP boarders during the course. Many of our course candidates develop long lasting friendships, connections and contacts which is in fitting with the Paddle UK educational philosophy re fostering a paddlesports community.
Pre Course:
Ensure you have the prerequisites in place – check the what do I need to bring. You can discuss with us in advance anything to do with the course and we will fully support you in the lead up to it.
We follow the course documents & syllabus which can be found at the following link.
On the day: You will be assessed in the environment of grade 2(3) coaching your clients for 90 minutes minimum which needs to be progressive learning appropriate to the skills required to white water SUP. You also need to perform certain rescues like a self rescue and a ‘mock’ unconscious rescue and personally be seen to be operating in the upper remit of the award yourself which means that you need to be able to paddle grade 3 white water on a SUP. At the end of the day, your assessor will sit down with you and debrief the day. Hopefully you have passed!!! Should you have any action plans there are two outcomes – the first is a fail whereby you need to represent for assessment – the second is a two month deferral whereby you might need to represent on a single element i.e. if you were unable to perform a self rescue on the day you may not need to redo the whole assessment and could come back just to prove that element is now at standard.
Post Course:
We always offer people to email in any questions they might have post course or and know that we are happy to support people even after the course in how they develop as coaches should anyone ever have any questions or want to run ideas past us.
