A learn to lead multi pitch climbing course in the Scottish Highlands is a comprehensive program (based in the Cairngorms national park near Aviemore) designed to teach you the essential skills and techniques required for safe and confident lead climbing on longer routes with multiple pitches. You will learn how to lead belay, place protection and build anchors on multi pitch climbs. The stunning scenery of the Scottish Highlands provides a breathtaking backdrop for your climbing adventure, and you will have the opportunity to lead climb multi pitch routes and build your confidence on more technical climbs.
This course is suitable for those with some climbing experience (and preferably able to lead single pitch climbs already) and a desire to progress to lead climbing on longer routes. Learn To Lead Multi Pitch Itinerary
The one-day Learn to Lead multi pitch climbing course in Cairngorms will provide participants with the essential skills to lead on longer, more complex routes. The course will be dedicated to equipment selection, rope management, route planning, gear use, stance management and variations of multi pitch belaying techniques. Participants will apply these skills to climb multi pitch routes – the actual route on the day will be dictated by weather, client experience and clients aims.
There will be an emphasis on efficient belay techniques and anchor building. The course will be led by experienced climbing instructors (members of AMI), who will provide expert guidance and support throughout the program. By the end of the day, participants will have gained valuable experience and confidence in leading multi pitch climbs, making this an ideal course for those seeking to progress in their climbing journey.
It normally starts by meeting at 09:00 where you can have a chat with your instructor who will tailor the day appropriately and then discuss the plan with you. This will likely involve walking into Sneachda and looking at routes like hidden chimney or utilising the surrounding area.

- Travel insurance. (We are insured for all our trips, but we recommend everyone has their own travel insurance as well.)
- Lunch, water.

- Sun cream, midge net
- Waterproofs (it is Scotland after all)
- climbing shoes, harness, helmet (if you prefer to use your own as opposed to what we supply).
- Sturdy footwear for the walk in.
