Overview

Rock Adventurer

The 4-day classic Rock Adventurer climbing routes course in the Cairngorms, Scotland, is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to climb some of the most iconic routes in the region all the same time as developing your climbing ability and progressing your skills. The course will be led by experienced climbing instructors (members of AMI), who will guide and instruct participants through a selection of classic routes, providing instruction on technique, route finding, removing climbing gear, belaying, stance management, leading routes, abseiling and whatever else you fancy. Participants will have the opportunity to climb routes on a variety of different crags (selected on the day based off the weather and abilities/aims) like Sneachda, Kingussie, Cummignston, Huntly’s cave, Polldubh and many more on both second and on lead. The course is suitable for climbers of all levels and provides an excellent opportunity to explore the stunning rock climbing terrain of the Highland all the same time as learning and becoming an independent climber. All the routes are tailored to your abilities to provide a truly adventurous 4 days out climbing in some stunning terrain.

Rock Adventurer Itinerary

The 4-day classic Rock Adventurer climbing routes course in the Cairngorms, Scotland, is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to climb some of the most iconic routes in the region and develop your climbing at the same time. The course will begin with meeting your instructor who will have a chat with you regarding what your aims for the course are and then tailor the 4 days accordingly by selecting venues and routes to match your ability and aspirations. Crags we may use are Kingussie, Cairngorm, Polldubh, Huntly’s Cave, Cummingstona nd many others. On route, you will gain instruction on climbing techniques, equipment selection, and route finding as well as belaying and removing gear. Opportunities to lead in single and multi pitch may be presented if you want them and participants will have the opportunity to climb a selection of classic routes under the guidance of the instructors.

The routes chosen for the different days will be tailored to the experience and skill level of the individuals. The course will conclude with a debrief and discussion of the 4 days experiences, providing an opportunity for participants to ask questions and provide feedback. Overall, the course offers a unique opportunity to explore the stunning rock climbing terrain of the Cairngorms while developing climbing skills and knowledge under the guidance of experienced instructors. Equipment

What Do You Need To Bring?

We pride ourselves on providing as much kit as possible for you.  However, the list below is what we recommend you should bring to your Rock Adventurer Course:

  • Travel insurance. (We are insured for all our trips, but we recommend everyone has their own travel insurance as well.)
  • Lunch, water.
  • Personal medication
  • Sun cream, midge net
  • Waterproofs (it is Scotland after all)
  • Sturdy footwear.
  • climbing shoes, harness, helmet (if you prefer to use your own as opposed to what we supply).

What Is Provided?

Here at Highland Outdoor Adventures, we pride ourselves on providing as much as we can but you are welcome to bring your own equipment if you do prefer. The list below is what we provide you with on the course.

  • All instruction.
  • Helmets (if you don’t have your own with you).
  • Ropes
  • Harness (if you don’t have your own with you)
  • Climbing shoes (if you don’t have your own with you)
  • All Technical Climbing Gear
  • All first aid and safety equipment.
  • Transportation for 2 people. Pickup can be arranged from elsewhere if needed.
  • Photographs of the day provided for you at no extra cost!
