Ben Nevis Winter Climbing Course Information
A guided winter climb on Scotland’s Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the UK, is an exciting and challenging adventure that will take climbers through stunning winter landscapes, icy gullies and snowy peaks. Experienced guides/instructors will lead the way, providing invaluable knowledge and expertise to ensure climbers can navigate the challenging terrain safely and confidently.
The routes on Ben Nevis offer a range of challenges, from easier climbs to more technical and challenging routes, making it suitable for climbers of all skill levels. Alongside the thrill of the climb, climbers will also enjoy breathtaking views from the summit, making it an unforgettable experience. Safety is always a priority, and guides/instructors will provide all necessary equipment and ensure climbers are well-prepared for the climb. We will likely aim for a route like number two gully or number 3 gully buttress both absolute classic climbs but if the weather is great then we can go for bigger or harder routes if it is what you want to do.
Any Winter Climbing courses will only be delivered by individuals holding the highest UK climbing award you can attain the WMCI and all instructors will be members of AMI (association of mountaineering instructors) – proving they adhere to strict CPD requirements and are currently at the very top of the climbing industry.
Prior winter walking experience is recommended but not essential and some basic prior climbing experience would also be ideal.
A guided winter climb on Ben Nevis will begin with a meeting at the North Face car park at 08:00. After introductions and a gear check, climbers will set out on the chosen route with an experienced guide leading the way. The climb will take the group through snowy and icy terrain possibly including gullies or ridges. The actual route chosen will depend on the ability of the group, aims of the group, and the weather/avalanche risk.
Along the way, the guide/instructor will provide instruction and guidance on essential climbing techniques, as well as offer insights into the history and geology of the mountain. The summit will hopefully be reached weather permitting, and the group will enjoy stunning panoramic views. After a well-earned break at the top, the group will descend back down to the car park, finishing the climb around 16:00/17:00.
